Celebrating #SmallBusiness with Local Success Stories and Awards

Fernie Businesses are fierce, successful, and thriving. And October, as part of small business month, we are going to celebrate some local success stories and honour some excellent businesses. .

Small businesses make up an important part of the BC’s social and economic fabric, representing 98% of businesses in B.C. and spanning many sectors – from technology to guide outfitters, retail shops to natural resources, agriculture to the emerging aerospace industry. All of these types of small businesses contribute to exporting $12.9 billion worth of made-in-B.C. products and expertise all around the world. Small business is typically defined as 100 employees or less.

In partnership with Imagine Kootenay, Fernie Chamber of Commerce recently highlighted a three of Fernie’s small business success stories. One with a 20-year history in Fernie. One with three branch offices. And one in the heart of Fernie’s Wilderness. Just a small sample of the incredible ingenuity and accomplishments of Fernie’s business community. I would like to thank Dave Bergeron, Dr. Don Vinge and Dr. Jeff Mann, and Kim Sedrovick for sharing a little time with us to showcase how fantastic doing business in Fernie can be.

Along with this, on October 24th the Chamber will host the Community and Business Excellence Awards. This great event celebrates the work and accomplishments of our business community. This year there were 140 nominations for business awards in 11 categories. The nominees have been notified and have submitted their award applications. Our independent panel of judges comprised of business people across Canada will spend the first week of October judging the applications. Finalist will be announced on October 6th and winners announced at the Awards Gala on October 24th.

The Chamber celebrates the success of all local businesses this month and hopes you will join us on October 24th, click here to buy tickets
