Members of the Chamber of Commerce are provided access to a number of benefits and services designed to help their business prosper. The Fernie Chamber of Commerce also facilitates and staffs a year-round Visitor Information Centre in two locations, both at Highway #3 and in Fernie’s Historic Downtown. The following information is a summary of the benefits and services provided for members and the residents of the City of Fernie and surrounding area. Chamber Benefits Visitor Information Centre The Fernie Chamber operates a full-service year-round Visitor Information Centre following strict guidelines set by Tourism BC. This intricate network of contacts provide visitors with information on British Columbia, with particular emphasis on promoting local visitor services. Visitors are provided with a full range of information that will help ensure their stay in Fernie is enjoyable and to entice them and their friends to return time and again to our area. Business Services We represent businesses, professionals, and individuals in order to facilitate economic prosperity for Fernie and area. Our mandate is to create a climate for competitiveness, long-term profitability, and job creation for businesses of all sizes in all sectors. The Fernie Chamber of Commerce is committed to heritage appreciation, ecological sensitivity, recreational and wilderness opportunities, while striving to maintain a sense of community and the natural beauty that surrounds Fernie. Through the provision accurate and up-to-date community information, and Business Start Up information and referral, your Chamber is working to help Fernie grow and prosper. Community Services The Fernie Chamber of Commerce assists with the coordination and promotion of various events such as the popular Griz Days Festival in early March, Canada Day activities in July, Christmas Light Up and other community special events. Scholarship/Bursary The Fernie Chamber of Commerce awards two bursaries annually. One bursary is awarded toward the pursuit post-secondary education in Business and the other in Tourism. Bursaries are administered through the guidance office at Fernie Secondary School. Eligible applicants include children of Chamber Members or children of employees of a Chamber Member. Marketing Referrals by telephone, customer service at the counter, daily emails and faxes are a few of the marketing tools we use to promote your business to local residents, investors, new business, and visitors. Distribution of your business information through Info-centre enquiries, through mail/email/fax, at trade fairs and direct distribution of printed materials and promotional packages. Your company information will be included on website under the Member Listings with a link to your contact information and you company’s website. Racking privileges for your brochures, fliers, posters etc. at the Chamber to promote your business or special event. An outdoor rack is available to provide public access to information after hours. The Chamber produces in-house fliers and information sheets containing members’ information and services which are distributed to visitors through the information centre. Broadcast Email service is available to Chamber members. Members may access this service to broadcast information to other members regarding sales, special events etc. Member businesses are then aware of what other businesses are offering and can take advantage of sales and events.
