Keep your business from self-destructing. Your mission – which we encourage you to accept – is to Get Smart!

  • Receive direct, actionable feedback on your customer service and/or visitor experience.
  • Increase awareness within your team of the value of positive customer service as a competitive advantage.
  • Once every 3 months, gather with other participating businesses to hear and discuss aggregate analysis and results.


How it works.

You do not have to be a Chamber member to participate (It’s cheaper if you are!).  You do have to commit to a minimum of 4 shops per year.
For each unique shop, choose from this list:
  • Resident/second home owner purchases product or service.
  • Out-of-town shopper purchases product or service.
  • Visitor books accommodation over the phone.
  • Visitor checks into accommodation.
  • Resident/second home owner buys and consumes food in your location.
  • Out-of-town shopper buys and consumes food in your location.
  • Resident/ second home owner product or service over the phone.
  • Out-of-town shopper purchases a product or service over the phone.
You can request specific dates, times of day and/or days of the week, if desired.

You’ll receive verbatim responses for each mystery shop you request, via email. From first contact, through to payment, a mystery shopper will report on all aspects of the sales process, from assessing needs to handling objections to upselling. If you opt for an out-of-town shopper, you’ll also learn about how well your team member(s) functions as Fernie Ambassador.

What it costs.

Chamber members pay $100 per shop; non-members pay $150. This includes the minimum $30 for consumed or kept shopper purchases. You have the option to offer greater deals and/or reimbursements. For example, if you are an accommodator you might offer a night’s stay to an out-of-town visitor.

Mystery shoppers have the option of returning a purchase or cancelling a booking. If this happens, you are responsible for promptly processing a refund. And, in this case, you’ll only pay the basic shop fee of $70 (Chamber member) or $120 (non-member) respectively.
